Commentary
The Sec. 4 match of the Club Youth Kanto Tournament second league started at 3:00 PM under a cloudy sky. FC Tokyo U-18, who had won three consecutive matches in the preliminary league, would secure their spot in the Club Youth National Tournament with a win in this match. Omiya, currently second in the group, also had a significant chance to advance to the national tournament if they earned points today, making this a match of great importance for both teams.
The match was a clash of wills, with neither side willing to lose, resulting in a fast-paced game with quick transitions between offense and defense from the start. Tokyo built their attacks early on, using SHIGEMATSU and YAMAGUCHI as focal points, with UMEUCHI, TERRY, and YAMASAKI involved on both flanks. After that, a back-and-forth battle unfolded, and at the 15th minute, YAMASAKI charged 30 meters on a counterattack with a dribble and unleashed a powerful long-range shot. The ball pierced the right side of the goal, securing the opening goal. Tokyo continued to press forward, and at the 17th minute, YAMAGUCHI was fouled inside the penalty area, earning a penalty kick. SHIGEMATSU calmly and powerfully converted it for the second goal. Even after taking a two-goal lead, they kept attacking. At the 28th minute, UMEUCHI crossed from the left side, and SHIGEMATSU slid in at the far post to push the ball into the net for the third goal.
At the 39th minute, Abe was fouled and earned a penalty kick, which Shigematsu scored once again, achieving a hat-trick. The first half ended with a 4-0 lead.
Tokyo did not ease up on their attacks after the second half began. At the 49th minute, Shigematsu took a left corner kick, and Umenai headed it in to make it 5-0. Then, at the 53rd minute, applying high pressure in the opponent’s territory, they stole the ball, and Yamaguchi received the final pass from Hoshi and calmly scored the 6th goal. Although Omiya scored once at the 72nd minute, Umenai scored his second goal of the day at the 86th minute, making it 7-1. Controlling the game throughout, they secured their 4th win in the preliminary league. As a result, they confirmed a top-two finish in the group and qualified for the Japan Club Youth Championship.
Although the U-18 players are pleased to have secured their qualification, their initial goal for this season is to win the Club Youth Championship consecutively. They have only just reached the starting point. We look forward to the continued growth and further achievements of the U-18 players with each match.
