Commentary
Sec. 4 of the Prince League was a match against Mitsubishi Yowa SC Youth at Kodaira Ground. It was clear and sunny, but with strong winds blowing, the kickoff took place at 11:00 a.m.
From the start of the match, both teams lacked decisive plays, and a back-and-forth battle continued. At the 10th minute, Toshimori took a shot from mid-range, and then at the 19th minute, Abe aimed for the goal from a free kick opportunity in front of the opponent’s goal, but neither resulted in a score.
Although no goals were scored, the team aggressively approached the opponent's goal, centering around Abe, who took a position in the left midfield.
At the 26th minute, there was a scramble from a corner kick, but they failed to score. Then at the 30th minute, Hiroki took a shot from a pass by Toshi Mori, but it was blocked by the opposing GK, and no goal was made. The team continued to press forward, but the first half ended scoreless at 0-0.
In the second half, intense battles for the ball continued just like in the first half. At the 58th minute, the opponent’s mid-range shot hit the crossbar, allowing FC Tokyo to escape danger once, but the rebound was skillfully finished, conceding the opening goal.
FC Tokyo’s troubles continued, and at the 63rd minute, Matsufuji fouled an opponent who had broken through in front of the goal, resulting in a straight red card. This forced the team to play with 10 men.
Despite being at a disadvantage, in the 67th minute, Mita passed to Yamazaki from the left side. Yamazaki dribbled toward the center and took a shot. It went in, leveling the score at 1-1. They wanted to push forward to take the lead, but in the 76th minute, during a corner kick threat, Hiroki was called for a foul in front of the goal, conceding a penalty to the opponent. The penalty was converted, and they fell behind again at 1-2. However, this is where FC Tokyo U-18 showed their true spirit. Fighting without giving up until the very end, in stoppage time, Umenai, who came on as a substitute, headed in a priceless cross from Abe on the left side, tying the game at 2-2.
Immediately after, the whistle blew and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The attitude of never giving up until the very end resulted in a last-minute equalizer. Tough battles will continue from the next match onward, but we hope they continue to fight valuing the spirit of never giving up until the end.
