Commentary

The 2010 Tokyo International Youth (U-14) Soccer Tournament, the first match was against New South Wales from Australia.
Under clear skies at Komazawa No. 2 Ball Game Field, the starting whistle blew at 12:30 p.m.

For the players, this was the long-awaited Tokyo International Youth tournament, so they were nervous and their play was awkward at the start. However, in the 4th minute of the first half, Masaki Hirata took a shot from a cross by Ryu Watanabe. Although it narrowly missed, perhaps that eased their tension. Then, in the 8th minute of the first half, after earning a free kick, they quickly restarted and Kanato Sawai took a long shot. This also narrowly missed.

FC Tokyo, suddenly gaining momentum, earned a free kick near the goal, with Masaki Hirata as the kicker. The ball, struck after a slow run-up, sharply attacked the goal. The opposing goalkeeper made a superb save, and just when it seemed they would fail to score again, Kanato Sawai quickly reacted to the rebound and pushed it in to secure the long-awaited opening goal.

Riding the momentum, FC Tokyo’s Reita Suzuki on the right side delivered a direct cross into the box. The two players inside let it pass, and Yudai Hasukawa, who was waiting, took a shot that unfortunately hit the post.

After a back-and-forth battle, in the 13th minute of the first half, Shinto Horikawa headed a goal kick to Ryu Watanabe. Watanabe dribbled past three opponents and fired a shot that pierced the net, making it 2-0.
FC Tokyo continued to press the attack and advanced the game, but the first half ended 2-0.

At the start of the second half, New South Wales also launched an offensive. However, GK Koki Ito, DF Ryu Yamagishi, Hikaru Narita, and Tsuyoshi WATANABE stood firm to stop the opponent's attacks.

Then, at the 37th minute, as the opponent began to tire from attacking, Kanato Sawai made a large switch to the left side to Ryu Watanabe. Watanabe broke through with a dribble and passed to Hirata. Hirata calmly took the shot, making it 3-0.

FC Tokyo, still relentless in their attack, saw Fukumori score an additional goal at the 39th minute, making it 4-0. The whistle blew to end the match here.

Securing a victory in the opening match has given us hope for the days ahead. Tomorrow, we face another strong opponent, but we want to maintain today's momentum and achieve another win.
