Implementation of Carbon Offset at FC Tokyo Home Games

Club Announcement

On Wednesday, November 3, 2021 (national holiday), at Ajinomoto Stadium, for the 2021 Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J1 League Sec. 34 match between FC Tokyo and Shimizu S-Pulse, all CO2 emissions (30t※2) will be carbon offset by TOKYO GAS CO.,LTD and Hinata Energy Co., Ltd. utilizing the "J-Credit System※3". We hereby inform you of this initiative.

□Details of Implementation
Tokyo Gas and Hinata Energy will utilize the J-Credit System to offset all CO2 emissions generated during the 2021 Meiji Yasuda Life J1 League Sec. 34 match between FC Tokyo and Shimizu S-Pulse held at Ajinomoto Stadium on Wednesday, November 3 (national holiday).

□Regarding the Environmental Initiatives of Tokyo Gas, Hinata Energy, and FC Tokyo
Tokyo Gas utilizes the "J-Credit System" at internal and external events and FC Tokyo home games for the purpose of environmental contribution.
Hinata Energy provides easily deployable renewable energy through solar energy services for buildings and apartments, and is working towards achieving a decarbonized society. Please note that this is the first time we are utilizing the "J-Credit System".
In addition, FC Tokyo has been working on environmental contributions such as the recycling activity of PET bottles collected at the game venue "ECO Pass Project in Ajinomoto Stadium", the use of reusable cups during game operations, and the use of personal chopsticks by business staff.
The three companies will continue to actively contribute to the improvement of regional and global environmental issues through efforts to reduce environmental impact, including CO2 reduction.

※1 Carbon offset refers to the concept of first making efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2, which are unavoidable in daily life and economic activities, as much as possible, and then compensating for the greenhouse gases that are inevitably emitted by investing in activities that reduce greenhouse gases equivalent to the amount emitted.

*2 At FC Tokyo home games, CO2 is emitted due to energy consumption from match operations at the stadium and transportation of visitors, players, and staff. It is estimated that approximately 30 tons of CO2 are emitted per home game, which corresponds to the amount of CO2 absorbed by about 2,000 cedar trees in one year.

※3 J-Credit system is a system in which the government certifies the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and absorption, such as CO2, through efforts such as introducing energy-saving equipment and forest management, as "credits". These credits can be used for various purposes such as achieving the goals of a low-carbon society and carbon offset.
