Commentary
The second match of the final league of the 11th Tokyo Club Youth U-17 Soccer Championship in 2009. This match, which would determine the next placement match, was held at Kodaira Ground in cold weather with a light rain falling and chilling to the bone, kicking off at 2:00 p.m.
Just one minute after the match started, it opened with a shot from Okumura, but after that, the battle for possession in midfield continued, with back-and-forth exchanges.
Afterwards, Tokyo actively attempted shots from mid-range but failed to hit the target. Tokyo tried to shake the sides using both FW Maeka and Iwata as starting points, but due to the opponent's quick pressure, they struggled to create clear opportunities.
At the 31st and 34th minutes, Iwata consecutively aimed for the goal but missed the target. Although these shots did not hit the frame, his turnaround shot and well-timed header offered a glimpse of Iwata’s qualities as a striker.
They continued trying to connect passes, but with the slippery field due to rain, effective attacks leading to clear scoring chances did not materialize as time passed. At the 40th minute, Iwaki dribbled inside and took a shot with his right foot, but it did not result in a goal. The first half ended with a 0-0 score.
After halftime adjustments from Coach Kuramata, the second half began.
Just after the start of the second half at the 50th minute, consecutive crosses came in from Yamaguchi on the right side, and Maeka perfectly timed his connection with the third cross to score the long-awaited opening goal.
Riding the momentum from this goal, at the 55th minute, Iwaki received the ball from Muramatsu deep on the left side, evaded a defender with a one-touch move, and took a shot to score the second goal. In this match, Iwaki repeatedly added sharp dribbling that brought an accent to the team and created chances.
Immediately after, in the 56th minute, Fukumori was brought down after skillfully dribbling past a defender, but the whistle was not blown.
In the second half, Tokyo, with Hiroki and Matsufuji leading a stable defense, hardly allowed any danger, but conceded a goal in the 69th minute due to a momentary lapse.
After that, the back-and-forth battle continued, with intense physical contests for the ball providing plenty of excitement. It was a period where not a single moment could be taken lightly.
At the 72nd minute, Iwata made a flying sliding shot from a perfect cross by Muramatsu, but it just missed.
After that, with the introduction of Akioka and Yuasa, Tokyo regained momentum. In stoppage time, Yuasa forcefully broke through between two defenders and took a shot. The ball hit the opponent's foot, changing its course, resulting in the decisive third goal, followed by the final whistle. They achieved a splendid 3-1 victory and advanced to the Final Round.
