○Match Digest
Kanto League Sec. 22. The opponent was Yokohama F. Marinos Oppama, who had escaped from the relegation battle. Under the clear autumn sky, the match kicked off at 2:00 PM at Fukagawa Ground. With the championship out of reach in the previous round, on the 18th both 3rd place Yokohama F. Marinos and 4th place Urawa Reds earned 3 points each. Fukagawa could not afford to lose this match to secure 2nd place. Fukagawa, eager to recover from the complete defeat in the previous round, played with intense spirit from the start. Fukino, starting for the first time in a while since the national tournament, and first-year Tachikawa were active in both offense and defense up front. Also, from this match, Kagiya, who moved into the defensive midfield, gave the team momentum with his defensive play in the midfield.
The long-awaited opening goal came in the 24th minute. From Tachikawa’s brilliant side change, Hori broke through the left side and delivered a precise pass to Arakawa. When Arakawa sent in a cross, Yoshida, waiting inside, controlled the ball exquisitely with his chest and struck it with his left foot, sending the ball into the net. This was the first goal in a while, scored through a flowing sequence of play. Riding the momentum, Fukagawa scored an additional goal in the 34th minute. From a build-up starting at the defensive line, the ball was moved with one-touch passes through Okaniwa, Yoshida, Yokoyama, and Hori. Finally, Fukino, who broke free from a pass by Yoshida, fiercely struck the ball with his right foot while tangled with the opposing defenders. Although the ball hit the crossbar, it was drawn into the goal. This was Fukino’s first goal of the season. Scoring after overcoming a difficult period further boosted the team’s morale. The first half ended with a solid performance.
Early in the second half, the score changed again. When the kickoff ball was fiercely chased by forwards Fukino and Yoshida, they won the ball near the penalty area, and finally Okaniwa took a shot. Although a defender initially blocked it with his foot on the goal line, the ball deflected off another returning defender, resulting in an own goal and an additional point. This decisive third goal came from a spirited defensive effort. After that, center backs Koki HASEGAWA and Shinohara, pairing for the first time this season, completely shut down the opponent’s attacks, and the match ended. Fukagawa earned 3 points for the first time in three matches. After the previous round’s complete defeat, Fukagawa rebuilt the team. Including the substitutes, everyone returned to basics and awakened their fighting spirit in this match. With one postponed match remaining, second place in the Kanto League has been secured. Fukagawa’s battle continues without pause, determined to overcome this frustration in the Prince Takamado Trophy.
