○ Match Digest
FC Tokyo U-18, returning to their home ground at the Tokyo Gas Musashino-En Multipurpose Ground after two consecutive wins, faced Yamanashi Gakuin University High School. A total of six players from Yamanashi Gakuin, who came from U-15 Fukagawa and U-15 Musashi, participated, making it a highly intense, must-win battle for both sides. With rain pouring onto the pitch since yesterday, the match kicked off at 11:00 a.m. with Yamanashi Gakuin in possession.

Yamanashi Gakuin, applying pressure on Tokyo with their aggressive, speedy play, dominated the early stages. However, Tokyo’s players, who had mentally prepared before the match with the mindset of "How much can we endure during tough periods? Let’s all go for our third win," responded firmly even after conceding the first move. Tokyo counterattacked in the 18th and 20th minutes. Ito initiated the play, and Tamiya, making an overlapping run, brought it to a finish but missed the target. Then, at the 24th minute, a free kick earned after Kishi was fouled changed the momentum. Although Tokyo began to seize control, they conceded a goal at the 43rd minute after a cut pass. However, Tokyo equalized just one minute later. At the 44th minute, Nagasawa connected Takahashi’s right corner kick, and Kishi headed it in to level the match, ending the first half on an even score.

“How do we fight against an opponent launching fast attacks in the second half? We are creating rhythm when we have the ball, so let’s stay calm and confident!!” The team confirmed this among themselves and headed onto the pitch for the second half.

From the start of the second half, maintaining the momentum from the first half, Tokyo advanced toward the goal with their characteristic coordinated passing. However, in the 56th minute, they conceded a goal after a defensive lapse allowed a dribble breakthrough. Undeterred, Tokyo’s Kamoike, Tamiya, Nagasawa, and Wakakasa took aggressive shots, but none found the net.
◈ Then, in the 71st minute, the moment Tokyo lost the ball, Yamanashi Gakuin launched a sharp counterattack and conceded their third goal. Tokyo made substitutions in the 72nd minute, replacing Yamagishi with Aihara, and in the 79th minute, replacing Ito with Hasukawa, aiming for a comeback. However, in the 86th minute, after losing possession, they were skillfully scored against again, conceding their fourth goal. Not willing to end like this, Tokyo brought on Watanabe Ryu for Tamiya in the 87th minute and fought until the end, but in the 88th minute, a penalty was scored against them, and the match ended 1-5.

Although we created more scoring opportunities than our opponents, we were completely defeated by Yamanashi Gakuin’s relentless counterattacks, utilizing their tireless and speedy players. What was the cause? We want to thoroughly reflect on this and turn this frustration into energy for the next match.
