○Match Digest
The Kanto Youth (U-15) Soccer League Sec. 19 was held away at Reysol Ground, where 7th place Kashiwa Reysol U-15 awaited. Starting from a situation 8 points clear of the relegation zone, the victory by the bottom-placed Urawa Red Diamonds Junior Youth the day before narrowed the point gap to 5, making it virtually impossible for Tokyo, currently 8th, to secure a spot in the Prince Takamado Trophy by finishing in the top 4 of the league with only 4 matches remaining. Now, the team wants to build momentum by focusing on the match at hand and preparing for the Prince Takamado Trophy Kanto Qualifiers to be held in early November. The match kicked off at 10:30 a.m. with Tokyo starting the game.
In the heavy rain, from the start, both teams cautiously probed each other. Tokyo tried to build up forward while maintaining possession at the DF line, but rushed their attacks in midfield and could not mount effective offenses. However, gradually they began to create chances. At the 10th minute, from a cross on the side, Koike, making his first start in a while, took a header shot, but it was blocked by a fine save from the opposing goalkeeper. Later, Watanabe took a shot at the 24th minute, and Osuga at the 35th, but neither could score. On the other hand, Kashiwa also threatened near the end of the first half, breaking through with a one-two near the penalty area and approaching the goal, but Tokyo’s defenders put their bodies on the line to prevent any shots.
The first half ended with a 0-0 score.
In the second half, both teams stuck to their styles and aimed to score. Kashiwa tried to exploit Tokyo’s positional mistakes through skillful position changes between their fullbacks and side midfielders, but on the right side, Yanagi and Osuga, and on the left side, Yazaki and Hishiyama communicated well and shut down Kashiwa’s attacks. However, in the 49th minute, the opponent broke through on the right side and crossed the ball, which was met but went over the bar. In the 52nd minute, a critical chance was created due to a Tokyo defender’s mistake, but goalkeeper Matsushima made a fine save! The back-and-forth battle continued, and in the 74th minute, Okuma dribbled past on the right sideline to create a chance but couldn’t convert it into a goal. In the 80th minute, Koike was substituted for Oda to push for a goal, but both teams’ defenses held firm until the end, and the match finished goalless.
Although the match was played under very heavy rain, it was a wonderful game where both teams showed an aggressive attitude to score goals until the very end. Accumulating such tough games will lead to growth both individually and as a team. We want to secure a solid victory in the next match and aim for a higher position, even if just a little.
