○Match Digest
3rd Round of the 19th Tokyo Club Youth U-14 Championship Final Tournament.
As the sun was setting and the cold was increasing, the match for a place in the semifinals against Mitsubishi Yowa SC Sugamo Junior Youth kicked off at 4:45 p.m. in Tokyo.
In the early stages, Tokyo displayed aggressive offense and defense, dominating the game.
At 1 minute, FW Nishimoto took a shot from a loose ball after a cross, and at 3 minutes, MF Ryo SATO took a shot following some passing play, but neither hit the target. At 12 minutes, FW Nishimoto connected with a header from a free kick, but was stopped by the opposing goalkeeper.
Mitsubishi Yowa Sugamo also launched attacks mainly through counters and long balls. Then, in the 23rd minute, they conceded a goal from a near-post header off a corner kick. Despite pressing forward, they conceded the opening goal from a set piece. Furthermore, in the 25th minute, a shot taken from the center outside the penalty area after a loose ball from a free kick was connected and went into the net, resulting in the second goal conceded.
After this, Mitsubishi Yowa Sugamo also began to connect passes, leading to a back-and-forth battle. Tokyo also earnestly aimed for the goal but could not score, and the first half ended.
At halftime, under the instruction from Coach Ninomiya to "do what we need to do, one thing at a time," they faced the second half.
Here, MF Shimosugi was brought on to replace MF Tajimada.
However, in the 37th minute, a powerful long-range shot was taken from a loose ball after the opponent's goal kick, resulting in conceding the third goal.
After that, there were increasing moments of being pressed by Mitsubishi Yowa's passing play.
At the 43rd minute, Aihara was brought in as the left SB, replacing Maruyama, and Koyama moved to CB.
At the 46th minute, Aihara joined the attack and broke through with a one-two pass with Nishimoto, but the shot was off target and saved by the opposing GK.
Afterwards, they continued passing and pressed toward the Mitsubishi Yowa Sugamo goal, but could not score against their tenacious defense.
At the 61st minute, MF Sekigawa was brought on to replace MF Abe. From here, they launched a fierce counterattack.
At the 64th minute, they won the ball through pressing from the front and crossed. Although the opposing DF cleared it, MF Tsukada seized the loose ball, broke through by dribbling, and struck sharply with his right foot. The sharp shot pierced the net, scoring one goal back!!
Then, in the 65th minute, MF Abe stole the ball with intense pressing, immediately sprinted out to the left front, received a pass, and played it centrally. Ryo SATO then sent a heel pass that toyed with the opposing defender, flowing the ball to the right side, where Sekikawa, running in, powerfully struck the net to score the second goal!!
Then, in the 70th minute, MF Ryo SATO broke through on the right side with a long pass and dribbled past the opposing DF. He evaded the defender and faced a scoring opportunity, but unfortunately, his shot went straight to the goalkeeper.
They continued to aim for the goal afterward, but could not score the equalizer, and the match ended 2-3.
It was a match that made us keenly aware of the need for the mental toughness to seize scoring opportunities and not show any weaknesses to the opponent.
