●Match Digest
The opponent for Sec. 10 of the JFA Prince League U-18 Kanto 2010 was Yokohama F. Marinos Youth. Depending on other venues, this match was one they wanted to win on their own to secure the championship. The match started at 11:00 a.m. in muggy weather that made sweat flow just by sitting.
Tokyo showed an aggressive attitude right from the whistle. Then, in the 1st minute, the ball was passed to Akioka, who had made a quick run after a swift restart; he dribbled through and crossed, but the opposing GK caught it, revealing the players' strong determination for this match. In the 7th minute, after winning a free kick on the right side, the ball was quickly passed to Hiroki, who had gone around outside; Hiroki crossed to Muto, but the header was caught by the opposing GK.
Continuing to attack vigorously from the start, at the 8th minute, the ball was passed from central Sasaki to Muramatsu, who overlapped on the left side. Muramatsu controlled the ball, increased his speed, advanced forward, and delivered a cross. Then, Muto, who rushed into the near side, slightly changed the course, and although the opposing defender desperately covered, the ball was drawn into the side netting, securing the long-awaited opening goal.
After that, the players’ determination in this crucial match for the championship was clearly visible. Centered around goalkeeper Miura, they kept shouting without pause, and the back line concentrated well to respond to the opponent’s attacks, preventing them from creating chances. At the 18th minute, Matsufuji made a sharp interception and advanced, delivering a cross from the left side to Maeka on the opposite side, but the shot failed to connect well with the ball, missing the opportunity. In this match, Matsufuji’s sharp interceptions, strength in one-on-one situations, and strong captaincy were evident throughout, consistently preventing dangerous situations.
After that, the opponent regained their rhythm and began circulating the ball with one-touch and two-touch passes, but we kept the forward line and defensive line compact, formed a solid block, and responded calmly. However, there were increasing instances of losing possession due to simple mistakes, leading to the opponent's dominant period.
However, repeatedly launching attacks from counterattacks, at the 28th minute, the ball was passed from Hiroki to Maeka, who had entered the post play, then to Eguchi running down the right side. Eguchi's cross did not connect with Akioka, who was running inside, but Muto picked up the rebound, held on in the center, and passed to Sasaki. Sasaki shot with his left foot but missed the target. Immediately after, at the 29th minute, Maeda won the aerial duel against the long feed from GK Miura, and from Muto passed to Akioka, who was running behind. Although the ball was slightly long, Akioka used his speed to touch the ball one step ahead of the opposing GK, evaded the GK, and headed the ball into the goal, but the opposing DF who came in to cover cleared it right on the goal line, so it was not a goal.
At the 31st minute, Muto intercepted the ball with sharp anticipation and passed it into the space in front of Maeoka. It was a big chance if Maeoka could touch it first, but the opponent's goalkeeper made a quick rush and cleared it by a step. Conversely, at the 35th minute, a sharp shot was fired from the center, but GK Miura reacted quickly to stop it. From here, they faced consecutive corner kicks but maintained full concentration as a team and did not allow the opponent to score. At the 39th minute, Sasaki stole the ball and immediately drove forward with speed, drawing a foul in the center and earning a free kick in a good position. Sasaki aimed directly for the goal with this free kick, but the shot went far off target. The first half then ended with a 1-0 lead.
Just after the start of the second half at the 46th minute, from a right-side throw-in, the ball was passed from Yamaguchi to Eguchi to Hiroki, then switched to the left side to Muramatsu. Muramatsu broke through with a one-two pass with Muto and delivered a cross to Akioka’s feet, but the ball was taken by the opposing DF as he tried to trap it. At the 48th minute, after losing the ball, Eguchi quickly recovered it, then from Muto to Akioka’s hold-up play and back to Muto. Muto dribbled past one opposing DF and took a shot, but it was blocked by the opposing DF, resulting in a corner kick. Muto attempted a diving header from this corner kick, but it just missed to the left. At the 50th minute, from a long feed by GK Miura, Akioka, who had started running earlier, outran the opposing DF and had a one-on-one chance with the opposing GK. Akioka tried to chip the bouncing ball over the opposing GK’s head, but the GK managed to save it, and it was not a goal.
After the second half began, Tokyo launched a series of attacks but struggled to capitalize on their chances. At the 56th minute, on the left side, Muramatsu, Maeoka, and Sasaki moved the ball precisely to draw in the opposing defenders. Finally, Muramatsu played a through pass to Akioka, who ran into a small space, and then dropped the ball to Sasaki, who cut it back, but it was intercepted by the opposing defenders. Conversely, at the 59th minute, an opposing player cut inside from the left side, and although the defenders couldn’t close down fully and a shot was taken, GK Miura reacted sharply to parry it. However, the ball spilled to the opponent who pushed it in, seemingly equalizing, but the offside call saved the team from conceding.
At the 68th minute, just after the second half started, Iwaki was brought on to replace Mutou, who had injured his leg but continued playing with determination. However, at the 75th minute, a clearance under pressure accidentally hit a teammate, leaving the ball in a dangerous position for a shot, but Kobayashi threw his body to block it. From there, they faced a relentless attack from the opponent but stayed focused, covering for each other and defending with their bodies to hold firm.
At the 81st minute, Nozawa was brought on to replace Akioka, who had repeatedly made runs behind the defense, to solidify the midfield which had become a bit open. At the 85th minute, from a quick restart, Maeoka broke through on the right side and sent a sharp cross with a shooting intent, which the opposing goalkeeper parried, and Iwaki followed up, but the opponent's persistence prevented a goal. At the 86th minute, a pass went from Sasaki in the center to Maeoka, then to Iwaki on the left side, and although Nozawa and Eguchi ran in free to meet Iwaki's cross, they just barely couldn't reach it.
In the 89th minute, Saito was brought on to replace Maeka, who had been continuously running to limit the opponent's options from the front line, strengthening the press from the front once again. Then, calmly responding to the power play, even when dribbled at, several players worked together to defend, maintaining concentration until the very end. The team, including the bench and substitute players, fought as one and secured a 1-0 victory.
And since Ryutsu Keizai University Kashiwa High School, playing at another venue, ended in a draw, we secured the championship of the "JFA Prince League U-18 Kanto 2010" with one match remaining, achieving the remarkable feat of winning the Prince League three consecutive times.
