後半戦への折り返し、落とせない一戦

　半分を折り返したリーグ戦。対戦相手も二巡目となり、第18節はヴィッセル神戸を国立競技場に迎え撃つ。中断明けからの5試合は、3分けに続いて2連勝を果たし、調子も上向き。特に守備では4試合連続無失点と、安定した力を発揮している。それは単にDF陣の踏ん張りだけではなく、全員の前から組織的に守る意識が大きな要因。攻撃面でも前節横浜FMに対して4得点と、こちらも昇り調子だが、「こういう時の戦いこそ注意しなければ。何があってもおかしくないのがサッカー」と原監督は気を引き締めていた。右足打撲の石川も驚異的に回復し、先発メンバーは前節と同じ4-5-1の布陣で臨む。なお、この試合でジャーンがJ1リーグ100試合出場を達成することとなった。

　対する神戸は現在勝点11で18位と苦しんでいる。パベル新監督を迎えた後の5試合も2分3敗と勝利がない。ただし原監督は「内容は決して悪くなく、ツキがないだけ。いい方向に回り出せば最下位にいるチームではない」と分析。攻撃では、トップ下に入ったMF三浦淳が、ミドルシュートや精度の高いキックから思い切りのよいプレーをみせている。また、FW平瀬が再開後の5試合で3得点と好調。まず彼らを自由にプレーさせないことが第一のポイントとなる。神戸の守備陣はメンバー表の上では4バックだが、DFホージェルとDF朴を中盤に、最終ラインはMF佐伯が中央に、DF北本、河本がストッパーを務める3バックの布陣。東京はいかに速い攻撃で、サイドのスペースを突き、切り崩していけるかに期待がかかる。

　神戸にも「もうこれ以上負けられない」という必死さがあるはず。それに対して受身に回らず、戦う気持ちを前面に出して3連勝をめざす。よい形で、8月の後半戦につなぐためにも大事な一戦だ。過去13戦負けなしと相性のよい国立競技場だが、この日の夕方、関東地方を襲った地震の影響でJR各線が運転停止。そのため、試合開始時刻を当初の18時33分より27分遅れとなる19時キックオフに変更。アクシデントの中、神戸のキックオフでスタートした。

Second Half Of Season Opens With Vital Game 

F.C.TOKYO took on Vissel Kobe at the National Stadium in the 18th. game of the season. With three draws followed by two wins and four consecutive clean sheets since the League restart the team's fortunes had improved considerably. This refound frugality was not only due to defensive quality but also a systematic organisation that allowed the team to defend from the front. The attack was flourishing, having plundered four goals in the demolition of defending champions Yokohama F Marinos in the previous game. TOKYO manager Hara urged caution though, "We have to be careful in a game like today's as you never know what's going to happen in football". Ishikawa had made a rapid recovery from a badly bruised ankle and the starting eleven remained unchanged from the previous week in a 4-5-1 formation. The game marked Jean's 100th. appearance for the club. 
Vissel were propping up the table at kick off with a mere 11 points. Although winless in 5 games under new manager Pavel Rehak, TOKYO's Hara was wary of dismissing his opponents, "They haven't played badly at all; they just haven't had the luck. If they can turn things around they won't be a lower ranked team for long". The addition of midfielder Atsuhiro Miura, with his excellent vision, passing ability and powerful shooting had strengthened the team. Forward Hirase had scored three in five games and was in good form. TOKYO would need to prevent the experienced striker from enjoying any space or freedom of movement. Vissel lined up with Saeki, Kitamoto and Komoto as a back three with Roger and Park in midfield. 
Vissel were already fighting for their J1 existence and couldn't afford to lose more games. TOKYO hadn't lost to Kobe in the previous 13 meetings and had a favourable record at the National Stadium. The home side was determined to produce a winning performance and enter the break in a positive manner. The Tokyo area was struck by an earthquake in late afternoon that caused the supension of train services and the kick off was pushed back by 27 minutes. The visitors got the ball rolling at 7pm. on a balmy summer's evening. 

神戸を圧倒するも、カウンターから先制を許す

　立ち上がりからアグレッシブに攻めに出た東京。開始1分で右CKのチャンス。栗澤のキックにルーカスがヘッドで合わせたが枠は捉えられず。4分には右スローインから梶山がつなぎ、加地が右サイドのエンドライン際まで突破。グラウンダーのマイナスのクロスを送り、栗澤がシュートするが左にはずれ、先制のチャンスを逃した。9分には金沢の左クロスのこぼれを栗澤、梶山がつないで、石川→ルーカスのポストから、中に回り込んだ石川がシュート。流れるようなパスワークからチャンスをつくったが、 シュートはヒットせずGKがキャッチ。17分には戸田が相手陣内左で倒されFKを得る。栗澤のキックにジャーンが飛び込むが、わずかにボールが長かった。

　ボランチの菅原、右サイドの朴、左のホージェルもしっかり引いて守る神戸だが、東京は速いパス回しと運動量で上回り、よくチャンスをつくった。20分にはFKから、梶山がよくおさえたミドルシュート。24分には梶山を起点に左右に展開、中央に上がっていた金沢がシュートするが、ゴール右に切れた。チャンスをなかなか得点に結びつけられない中、25分のことだった。自陣でボールを奪い、梶山が左サイドに長いスルーパス。戸田が攻め上がるがクロスはDFに阻まれ、こぼれを相手GKがキャッチ。これを神戸・左サイドのホージェルが受けると、すぐさま前線にロングパス。ラインを上げていた東京DFの裏にFW栗原が抜け出し、土肥と1対1に。これを冷静に決められ、失点。神戸の見事なカウンターから、先制を許した 。

　それでも、前半残りの15分はセットプレーを中心に神戸ゴールに迫った。31分には加地の突破から右CK。33分には戸田が倒され、左エリアでFKを得る。36分には金沢が左エンドライン際まで攻め込み、浮き球でマイナスのクロス。相手GKが触り、右にこぼれたところに梶山が詰め、ボレーで叩きつけたが、ゴール左に。38分にはルーカスと梶山がダイレクトでパス交換、中央に走りこんだ加地が狙いすましたシュートを放つが相手DFがブロック。42分には栗澤が倒されて得たFKからジャーンが狙うが、 身体を張って守る神戸DFの前にどうしても決めることができず、1点のビハインドを負って、前半を終了した。

TOKYO Dominate But Fall Behind 

TOKYO began in aggressive mood, winning a corner with their first foray forward. Lucas met Kurisawa's ball but failed to hit the target. The first real chance fell to Kurisawa in the 4th. minute. Kajiyama neatly played Kaji in on the right near the corner flag; Kaji raced to the byline and pulled the ball back to Kurisawa who scuffed his shot wide of the left post. In the 9th. minute a slick passing move set up Ishikawa on the edge of the area; Kakegawa, in the Vissel goal, held Ishikawa's shot comfortably. In the 17th. minute Toda won a free kick on the left and Kurisawa curled a tempting ball to the far post that Jean missed by a whisker. 
Sugawara in defensive midfield, Park on the right and Roger on the left formed a solid defensive line but TOKYO's rapid passing and movement created chances. Kajiyama fired in a free kick in the 20th. minute and another neat passing display set up Kanazawa for an attempt on goal in the 24th. minute. The home side seemed in command when disaster struck in the 25th. minute. Kajiyama played a long feed down the left for Toda to chase. Toda took on a defender and crossed, his effort striking a defender and falling to Kakegawa. Kakegawa bowled the ball out to Roger who immediately hoicked it forward for Kurihara to chase. Kurihara outpaced the TOKYO defence and slipped the ball past the advancing Doi to give his side an unlikely lead. 
TOKYO maintained their bombardment of the Vissel goal with a series of free kicks and corners but were unable to fashion a clear sight of goal. In the 36th. minute Kanazawa skipped to the byline and floated in a cross that Kakegawa punched unconvincingly clear. The loose ball fell to Kajiyama whose downward volley ballooned fractionally the wrong side of the post. TOKYO increased the pressure as half time approached but the Vissel defenders flung themselves in front of efforts from Kaji and Jean and the period ended 0-1. 

馬場の鮮やかなゴールで追いつくが、ドローに終わる

　後半に入っても東京の優位は変わらず。中盤でボールを支配し、サイドを起点に波状攻撃を仕掛けた。しかしクロスやシュートの正確性を欠き、どうしてもフィニッシュが決まらない。後半開始直後に、エリア内で石川、梶山が次々とシュートを放つが、神戸DFに阻まれる。48分には梶山がミドル、52分にもルーカスからのパスを受けた梶山が、ゴール前で相手DFを切り返しシュートするが、わずかに右にきれた。一方の神戸はリードを奪い、ますます守りを固めてくる。この流れに、55分には栗澤、石川に代えて、馬場、鈴木規を同時に投入。勝負を賭けた。

　これで勢いを増した東京。セットプレーからも多くのチャンスをつくり、58分には右サイドの角度のないところから鈴木規が強烈なFKでゴールを狙う。だがバウンドしてGKにセーブされる。59分には波状攻撃。こぼれをよくつないで、ラストはエリア手前で梶山が相手DFのタイミングをはずしたシュートを放つが、相手DF→ポストにあたり、ゴールならず…。だが迎えた64分、中央の馬場が梶山とのパス交換から、やや左に流れたが、中に切り返して相手DFを抜ききる前にシュートを放った。ボールはカーブを描いて右下隅にイン。馬場のテクニックが光る2試合連続のゴールで同点に追いついた！

　その後も引いて守る神戸DF陣の前のスペースを使って、馬場や梶山が積極的に仕掛け、チャンスをつくった。66分には戸田の左クロス→右の馬場が後ろに戻し、加地のシュート性のクロスにルーカスが飛び込む。ワイドな展開をつくったが、わずかにタイミングが合わず。79分には金沢に代えて三浦を投入。今野が左サイドバックに入る布陣でサイドを突いていこうとした。89分には、加地のロングスローから三浦がつなぎ、加地が強烈なシュート。ゴール前に梶山も詰めたが、神戸の気迫のディフェンスの前に追加点は奪ず。終了間際にはペナルティアーク手前からのFKを鈴木規が狙い、見せ場をつくったが、結局20本のシュートも馬場の1得点にとどまり、1対1の引き分けに終わった。しかし神戸の狙いどおりともいえる展開から、勝ち点1を奪ったことを前向きに捉えたい。7月の6連戦を2勝4分の負けなしで乗り切り、8月からの後半戦に臨む。

　【選手コメント】《馬場》「ゴールは狙いどおり。中に切り返して右足に替えてカーブをかけた。いままで強いシュートを蹴ってはずしていることが多く、それは自分らしくないと思い、今日は落ち着いてゴールを決めることができた。ここのところイメージどおりのプレーができているし、足にボールも付いていて調子がいい」《栗澤》「（立ち上がりに加地のクロスからシュートのチャンスがあったが）ボールが予想より一歩速く、詰めきれなかった。ああいうところで確実に決めていかなければ…と反省している。スペースがあると自由に攻めに出られるが、相手DFに引かれると、やはりクロスの精度や中の厚みが必要になってくる。そこの足りなさを感じている。憂太のようにゴール手前からもシュートに入れればよかったのだが…。自分もああいう位置からのシュートをもっと狙っていくように心掛けたい」《加地》「こういう試合を勝ちに結びつけなければいけないのだが、最低限として引き分けにもっていけたことはよかった。今日はつなごう、つなごうと意識しすぎていたかもしれない。相手に引かれた時の攻撃に課題は残る」

　【原監督の会見要旨】「神戸はここのところ失点が多かったが、試合を観ると、いいゲームをしながらもアンラッキーな形で敗れていて、内容は決して悪くなかった。ただ今日は必ずゴール前を固めてくることが予想できた。そこでシンプルにボールを動かし、サイドを崩す、あるいは中央ではルーカスをうまく活かしながら攻めていこうとした。前半の失点は、攻撃にかかってカウンターを受けたもの。茂庭もオフサイドを取ろうとし、土肥も前に飛び出せたかなと思うが、下がってしまった。あの失点によって余計に神戸はゴール前を固めてきた。ハーフタイムには、こういう試合をひっくり返していこうと話したが、栗澤は神戸MF佐伯にマンツーマンでつかれ、疲れがみえた。石川もケガをした後で、コンディションはよかったが本調子ではなかった。そこで馬場と鈴木規を一気に投入して勝負に賭けた。実際、彼らが入って流れが変わり、馬場がすばらしいゴールも挙げた。その後もう1点取るチャンスがあったが、加地がいい形で攻めてもクロスが流れたり、鈴木規ももう一歩中に入っていけるというところでクロスに逃げたりした。勝ち点3を取りたかったが、神戸も必死にきて取りきれなかった。シュートの精度も含め、そこの課題を解消していかなければ。6連戦は2勝4分となったが、あと2試合は勝てたと思う。しかし選手は一丸となって、一時期の苦しい状態を乗り越えた。今野を含め、4名が日本代表にも選ばれ、チームとして確実に成長していると思う。梶山が中盤でやれるメドも立った。攻撃のクオリティはまだまだ上げなければいけないが、今野と梶山の2人をうまく活かし、チーム全体でダイナミックな攻めができるようにしていきたい。8月20日まで期間があくが、しっかりトレーニングをして、今日のような試合を勝ち点3に結び付けられるように、上位の鹿島やガンバにも追いつけるように頑張っていきたい」

　【神戸・和田コーチの会見要旨（パベル監督退席処分のため、代理出席）】「チームとして立ち上がりからいい入り方ができたと思う。試合前にはしっかりブロックをつくって守り、チャンスは少なくなるかもしれないが、カウンターをモノにしようと話していた。そのプランどおりに先制点が取れた。その後もチームがやろうとする戦い方を、全員が一つになってやってくれたと思う。後半は全体的にラインが引きすぎて、ベンチから指示はしていたが同点にされた。その後も東京の猛攻が続いたが、選手には絶対に負けられないという強い気持ちがあった。もちろんもう1点取って逃げ切りたかったという気持ちはあるが、ドローで終わったことを前向きに捉えたい。後半戦への折り返しの最初のゲームに負けなかたことを評価したい。中断期間にチームを立て直し、8月からのゲームに備えたい」

Baba Bags A Beauty But... 

TOKYO began the second period as they had finished the first: controlling the ball in midfield and penetrating the Vissel defence along the wings. However, the quality of the final ball was lacking and despite almost total domination a clear scoring opportunity failed to materialise. Kajiyama came closest in the 50th. minute following some sterling work by Lucas but his snatched shot from the edge of the area flew wide. Vissel's defensive resolve was high and in the 55th. minute TOKYO made a double substitution, bringing on Baba and last week's hero Suzuki, in an attempt to conjure an equaliser. 
The move breathed fresh life into TOKYO's attack and the chances flowed. In the 58th. minute Suzuki hammered a long range free kick on goal that Kakegawa fumbled but no TOKYO player could reach the loose ball and the Vissel defence cleared their lines. In the 59th. minute Kajiyama saw his well-struck effort clip the heels of a defender, wrong-footing Kakegawa who looked on with relief as the ball bobbled against the post and away. TOKYO finally made the breakthrough in the 64th. minute. Baba and Kajiyama exchanged passes in midfield, Baba receiving the ball back some 20 metres from goal on the left of the penalty area. He cut inside a defender and curled a drive across the face of the goal and inside the right post. Baba's exemplary technique had found the net for the second game in a row. 
Vissel withdrew even further into their defensive shell, allowing Baba and Kajiyama to use the space in front of the defence almost at will. In the 66th. minute Toda and Baba attempted to stretch the Vissel defence with deep crosses but Lucas failed to connect with Kaji's shot-cum-cross. In the 79th. minute Miura replaced Kanazawa with Konno switching to left side back. In the 89th. minute Kaji blasted a shot against the Vissel defence but Kajiyama was unable to capitalise on the loose ball. Suzuki blasted the final chance of the game, a free kick some 28 yards from goal, into the defensive wall and the contest finished 1-1. Vissel seemed satisfied with the point they earned from a solid defensive performance. TOKYO finished the hectic July schedule with a W2 D4 record and turned their attention to the 19th. game at the end of August, following yet another month-long break for international commitments. 


Players' comments 
Baba: 
"The goal was just what I was aiming for: cut back inside, hit it with my right foot and curl the ball inside the far post. I've been shooting at full power until now and missing often but today's effort was much better. I picked my spot and placed the shot rather than hammering it. I'm able to play exactly as I'm visualising things at the moment and I feel in good form". 

Kurisawa: 
"Kaji's ball came to me faster than I expected and I couldn't hit it cleanly. I really have to bury chances like that. We had plenty of space to attack in today but when teams defend deeply we need more accurate crosses and more players in the box. I really felt we were lacking that today. I wish I could have pulled off a shot like Yuta's ( Baba ); I have to try to shoot from that position as well". 

Kaji: 
"We should win games like that today but at least we were able to get a draw. Maybe we concentrated too much on passing the ball around. We still have a problem when our opponents defend very deeply". 


F.C.TOKYO manager Hara 
"Kobe have conceded goals and lost a few games recently but they haven't played badly, they've just been unlucky. We knew they would attempt to lock up their defence today and planned to play a simple game using the wings and Lucas' ability to hold the ball up in a central position. They caught us on a counter attack; Moniwa was trying to play Kurihara offside and I thought Doi would come out of his goal but he stayed back. That goal allowed them to defend even more deeply. Kurisawa was being man-marked by Saeki and was tiring while Ishikawa was far from his best today after that knock in last week's game. So we sent Baba and Suzuki on together to change things around and Baba scored a great goal. We had our chances to win the game after that but the crossing needed a little more patience and accuracy. Vissel were defending as though their lives depended on it. We got two wins and four draws out of the six games but we should have won two more of those. Still, the squad has a great spirit and we overcame the difficult period we were having. We've also had four players selected for the National Team which is further proof that we're making progress. Kajiyama had another great game today and his partnership with Konno is so important in allowing us to attack dynamically. We still need more creativity in attack, though. We have a break until August 20th. now and we're going to work hard in training to win games like today's and move ourselves up towards the right end of the table". 

Vissel spokesperson: 
"The team played well from the start today. Our plan was to defend strongly and take our chances, however few they might be. We acheived our aims in the first half but defended too deeply after TOKYO equalised. We're very pleased not to have lost the first game of the second half of the season and will be working hard in training to improve after the break".
