INTERVIEW 2022.2.17

Interview with Kensuke NAGAI

Q: Finally, it's the opening. You mentioned that you were enjoying the current football during the Okinawa camp, are you still enjoying it as we approach the opening?
A: I believe that by playing more matches, I will continue to grow, and I feel every day that I will also grow through experiencing various irregular situations. Since challenges inevitably arise while playing, I think it is important to value each and every match and approach them carefully.

Q: Is it possible to discuss within the team about adjustments when things don't go well during the 90 minutes?
A, there are many experienced players. The final decision must be made confidently by the 11 players on the pitch, and without both the coach's requirements and individual ideas, it definitely won't go well. I think it's important to manage that well, and I want to enjoy doing it.

Q, it's also exciting to have Kawasaki Frontale as the opponent for the opening match.
A, Kawasaki Frontale is a team with well-established tactics and has won consecutive league titles, so as challengers, we want to hit the wall and grow from it.

Q, how do you approach positional play?
A, the coach values possession of the ball, so you have to properly position yourself while observing the situation and timing; otherwise, the ball cannot be circulated. While thinking carefully about this, you must not only consider the position where you want to receive the ball but also take into account the overall balance of the team. I want to work while watching the balance around me so that it functions well.

Q, does the final finish require an idea?
A, while valuing possession of the ball, I think there are times when you have to push forward to finish. I want to be able to build up play in a way that allows us to enter the attacking zone while taking good positions.
