INTERVIEW 2022.7.26

New Player Interview
DAY2 Luiz PHELLYPE

Q, please tell us about the background of your transfer to Tokyo.
A, regarding the background of my transfer to Tokyo, I have told my family and friends for a long time that I have always hoped to play in Japan. Among those opportunities, I received an offer from Tokyo and decided to go to Japan without hesitation.

Q, what skills were evaluated from Tokyo?
A, I believe my strength lies in my finishing ability to score goals. Of course, that is my job, and I think I was called to Tokyo to contribute to the team by scoring goals.

Q, what aspects of Japan were you interested in when deciding to come here?
A, I have heard a lot from my friends about the greatness of Japan as a country, and one of those things is how polite people are. I wanted to experience that charm, and the fact that people are serious and disciplined is something I want to pass on to my own children, which is what interested me most about Japan. Another reason is the J.League. I am curious to see how well I can compete in Japanese soccer, which has grown tremendously in recent years.

Q, what is your impression of the team after joining the practice?
A, I have a very good impression. The strengthening department, the coach, and the team warmly welcomed me joining, and the team has clear goals. We are currently in the process, but I fully understand and accept that.

Q, please tell us your impression of Tokyo football.
A, the environment is well established, and what impresses me is that the team sets clear goals. The players belonging to Tokyo have warmly accepted me as a teammate, so I have a very good impression of both.

Q: Do you have any particular attachment to jersey numbers?
A, the jersey number I have often worn is 28. I wore number 22 for just one season. When it was decided that I would join Tokyo, number 28 was not available, and since the season I wore number 22 was a good one for me, I chose number 22 with that meaning in mind.

Q: What would you like to be called by the fans and supporters?
A: Please call me either Luiz or Phellype, whichever is easier for the fans and supporters to say. I can respond to both, so I hope you will call me by whichever is easier for you to pronounce.
