Ryoya OGAWA Interview

Q, looking back at the Kawasaki Frontale match, it seemed like there were some early struggles but the team settled down as time went on. How was the overall performance throughout the 90 minutes?
A, although we lost, I think we were able to show at least some of what we wanted to do. The players who played also felt fulfilled, or rather, they felt a sense of accomplishment.

Q, we had a higher ball possession rate than Kawasaki.
A, we lost control to the opponent in the first 15 minutes, but after that, we dominated possession and had multiple opportunities to get in front of the goal. Tokyo had more shots and chances overall, so it's especially frustrating given the quality of our play. I believe we must firmly connect this to a positive result.

Q: During the preseason camp, there were comments that it takes time for the new style of football to permeate. Did you feel any sense of being able to develop your own style of football despite the concerns?
A, Coach Albert PUIG ORTONEDA also said that it takes time for the new style to take hold. We expected it to be difficult at the start of the season, but I think we were able to play the style of football we wanted more than we thought. Starting with the new system, I believe what we have been working on for the past month was not wrong.

Q, Do you need to frequently adjust your positioning while watching the movements of the wing and midfield players as a side back? Were you able to play smoothly?
A, I think I was able to fluidly take positions not only by staying wide but also moving inside during the match, and there were moments when I received the ball and was able to break Kawasaki's press. In terms of carrying the ball as well, I believe that both myself and Kensuke NAGAI were able to smoothly circulate the ball while changing positions.

Q, I want to continue connecting with a good image in the next game, right?
A: I believe we must not forget the image from the opening match and continue playing our style of football in the next game as well.
